Olive Oil Production To Increase 35 Percent
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli announced the olive and olive oil production forecast of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council:
“In 2021, our olive production will increase by 32 percent compared to last year and reach 1.7 million tons, and our olive oil production will reach 236 thousand tons with an increase of 35 percent.”
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli stated that in 2021, it is estimated that the total olive production will be 1 million 738 thousand 680 tons with an increase of 32 percent compared to the previous year, and the amount of olive oil to be obtained will be 235 thousand 727 tons with an increase of 35 percent.
Minister Pakdemirli stated that the olive and olive oil yield estimation studies for 2021, carried out under the coordination of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council, have been completed.
The delegation consisting of Ministry Provincial Directorates, Research Institutes, Chambers of Agriculture, Chambers of Commerce and Exchanges, Agricultural Sales Cooperatives, Associations, Producer Unions, Olive Oil Factories and Producers contributed to the study, which was carried out in 16 olive producer provinces in September 2021 under the coordination of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council.
Yield Per Tree Increased 30 Percent
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Pakdemirli stated that the development process of olive fruits continues and the changes that may occur in the harvest are being followed, and that Aydın, Muğla, İzmir, Balıkesir, Manisa and Hatay provinces are in the first place in olive production for oil, and Manisa, Bursa, Balıkesir, Aydın and Mersin provinces in table olive production. Minister Pakdemirli also stated the following:
“According to the study, the number of our olive trees will increase by 1.9 percent compared to the previous year to 192 million 283 thousand, and the average olive yield per tree will increase by 30 percent from 8.3 kilograms to 10.56 kilograms. It is estimated that it will reach 1 million 738 thousand 680 tons with an increase of 32. It is predicted that 29 percent of the olives to be produced will be used for table use and 71 percent as oil. The amount of olive oil to be obtained will increase by 35 percent compared to the previous year, from 175 thousand tons to 235 thousand 727 tons. “
We Exported 734 Million Dollars Of Olives And Olive Oil In The Last 3 Years
Underlining that Turkey is a net exporter of olives and olive oil, Pakdemirli added that since 2019, they have exported a total of 734 million dollars, including 390 million dollars of table olives and 344 million dollars of olive oil.
