Olive and olive oil exports increased by 21 percent in June 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 19 million 60 thousand dollars.
According to data from Turkey’s Aegean Exporters Union exports of table olives in June last year, an increase of 44 percent compared to the same month from 6 million 871 thousand dollars rose to 9 million 893 thousand dollars.
During this period, olive oil exports increased by 1 percent to 8 million 477 thousand dollars, while olive oil exports increased by 40 percent to 689 thousand dollars. Thus, olive and olive oil exports, which were 15 million 775 thousand dollars in June 2019, increased by 21 percent in June this year to 19 million 60 thousand dollars.
In the January – June period, exports decreased by 10 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and fell to 140 million 878 thousand dollars.
Olive Oil Exports to Japan Increased 162% in Olive Oil
In June, Germany ranked first with 2 million 946 thousand dollars in table olive exports, followed by Iraq with 2 million 71 thousand dollars and Romania with 1 million 163 thousand dollars.
In olive oil exports, the USA ranked first with 2 million 711 thousand dollars. Spain, which increased its exports by 138 percent compared to June of last year, to 1 million 78 thousand dollars, came in second. In June, exports to Japan, the shining market of agricultural exports, increased by a record 162 percent to $ 1 million 24 thousand.
Olive Oil Exports are Increased in June 2020
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), Davut Er, head of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association, said that the importance of food in the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) process was once again understood.
Mentioning that there was no problem in the supply of olives and olive oil in the country during the epidemic, Er stated that the increase in exports in June was also pleasing.
Pointing out that the figures are a sign of recovery, Er said, “In the pandemic process, there may be an increase due to the delayed and accumulated exports due to logistics conditions. It is pleasing to increase despite all this.” he spoke.
Explaining that exports to Japan will continue to increase, Er stated that they are working to achieve similar increases in other Far Eastern countries.
