The EU-supported OASIS Project, which aims to increase efficiency in the olive and olive oil sector, aims to attract 50 companies from Turkey.
The European Union (EU)-supported “Innovative and Sustainable Clustering in the Olive Value Chain (OASIS) Project” is being implemented to increase efficiency, ensure sustainability and optimize resource use in the olive and olive oil sector. The project, in which Turkey, Spain and Italy are partners, aims to attract 50 companies from Turkey.
What does the OASIS Project Aim for?
Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association President Emre Uygun stated that the main purpose of the project is to train olive and olive oil producers operating in the Aegean Basin on sustainable practices, increase raw material efficiency and provide resistance to external factors such as climate change.
Uygun said, “A competitive market environment will be created by reducing food waste and optimizing resource use in the production processes of companies with pressing facilities in the table olive and olive oil sector. Strengthening the food supply chain and reducing production costs are also among the main objectives of the project.”
Innovative Support for Olive and Olive Oil Producers
Sustainability assessments of companies will be conducted within the scope of the project and their current resource efficiency will be analyzed. Free training and consultancy services will be provided to producers on topics such as circular economy, resource efficiency, digital transformation, green production and smart agricultural technologies.
In addition, SMEs with good practice examples will be identified and promoted throughout Europe. Matchmaking activities will be organized to increase cooperation and knowledge sharing between companies in Turkey, Spain and Italy.
Competition will Increase in the Sector
Turkey became the world leader in table olive production with a yield of 750 thousand tons in the 2024/25 season, while it rose to second place after Spain in olive oil production with a yield of 475 thousand tons. The OASIS Project aims to make production processes more efficient, increase the competitiveness of businesses and strengthen their positions in the international market.
The companies that will participate in the project will be provided with 25 different trainings covering 150 SMEs and sample roadmaps will be presented to businesses. In addition, strategies that will reduce production and shipping costs with the adaptation of new technologies will be developed.
